Curt Laumann

Technology Programs Advocate
Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering

As a Technology Programs Advocate, Curt Laumann develops and leads activities that engage students in engineering technologies, primarily Wireless Communications and Cybersecurity.  Curt holds a BA in Physics from Lawrence University (Wisconsin), and an MS in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona.

Curt has worked as a physicist, design engineer, and process engineer (a former ASQ Certified Six Sigma Blackbelt and Certified Quality Engineer).  His work in the defense and semiconductor industries spanned many different technologies, for example: fiberoptics, welding, circuit cards, optical alignment and tracking, thermal batteries, imaging systems, to name a few.

Curt was first licensed by the FCC as an amateur radio operator decades ago in Minnesota.  He currently holds an FCC Extra Class amateur radio license and has explored many facets of the hobby.  His current interests include:  managing the University of Arizona amateur radio station and mentoring students; Morse code; portable radio operations, satellite communications, construction of various antennas and ham radio widgets; and 3D printing.  For a few decades Curt pursued flying:  he is an FAA licensed private pilot in airplanes and commercial pilot in gliders, and held a glider instructor certification for fifteen years
